Frequently Asked Questions
Find clear answers to common questions regarding corporate tax, platform bookkeeping, multi-currency accounting, and historical filing.
Q1: Our restaurant uses third-party delivery platforms (UberEats/Skip/DoorDash). How do we handle the bookkeeping and HST reconciliation at year-end?
A: Platform operations require precise separation of Gross Sales, platform commissions, tips, and the net amounts deposited into your bank. More importantly, we must reconcile the HST collected by the platforms on your behalf versus your direct dine-in HST. We specialize in adjusting these platform statements alongside year-end inventory counting to prevent CRA audits.
Q2: Our company uses a BMO USD account for cross-border transactions. How is this handled for Canadian corporate tax (T2) filing?
A: Although your statement is in USD, Canadian tax reporting must be in CAD. According to CRA guidelines, day-to-day revenues and expenses must be converted using the historical exchange rate on the transaction date (or an annual average rate). However, your year-end USD balance, unpaid AR, or AP must be converted using the exact Year-End Spot Rate. This mismatch generates Foreign Exchange Gain/Loss, which we will calculate and adjust in your Balance Sheet and Income Statement.
Q3: Our company changed its legal name from A to B in 2025. If we are back-filing or adjusting taxes for 2022, which name should we use on the tax return?
A: You must use your current, officially registered legal name (Name B). Even though you are addressing historical data from 2022, the tax package is being electronically transmitted to the CRA system today. Since your 9-digit Business Number (BN) remains unchanged, the CRA's automated verification system will compare the name on the return with their current database. Using the old name A would cause a 'Name Mismatch' error. We handle these transitions by properly checking the name change indicator in the T2 software.
Q4: Do you support modern cloud accounting platforms, and can you handle multi-provincial corporate filings?
A: Yes, we fully support platforms like QuickBooks Online (QBO) and Xero, which allows us to collaborate efficiently with small businesses, e-commerce, and tech startups. Our dual-office presence in British Columbia (BC) and Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) enables us to handle multi-provincial corporate structures seamlessly, ensuring compliant provincial tax allocations.
